Today, I visited New Bird for the first time and spoke with some local skaters! The kids I spoke with expressed the following needs for the space:
– a request for low rails
– the need to patch the existing cement (the grooved surface of the former loading dock is bad for riding)
– smoother coping
Other observation included:
– 2 different graffiti crews compete to cover the walls/background to the skating area
– There is no free indoor space in Liverpool for young people to skate in (a private skatepark, Rampworks, exists but it is too expensive for many kids)
– Look up M-DIY in Bristol
– Most skaters are around during the day. The biggest turnout is on Saturdays at 1pm
