This soft sculpture was produced for Meshroom, an event choreographed by Marika Niko and produced by Duke Arts for UNCG, in Greensboro, NC in 2024.
The piece is part of the ongoing “Surface Tension” series of artworks sewn out of used blue collar textiles. The flexible, site-adjusted surface can be shown fully extended, on the ground or hung in the air. It can also be folded for exhibition in smaller spaces, draped over other objects, or be pinned to the wall. It was originally sewn without as armature and activated by dancers and movement artists during a performance environment that formed around a dance floor inviting visitors and artists alike to interact with a myriad of objects.
The round geometric shape builds on my interests in geometric earthworks and temporary autonomous zones. The flat form creates a space shaped by the residues and remnant of human labor, framing the real and imagined movements within its’ bounds.
