This installation was sewn to perfectly fit the dimensions of le casier, a temporary exhibition space in the form of a locker, located at the ERG in Brussels. It is produced from blackout fabric on a (hidden) steel armature and hung from the top of the space.
The physical form is a nod to wearable sculptures, including Hélio Oiticica’s Parangolés, and minimalist installations such as Olafur Eliasson’s Your Loss of Senses, designed for the elevator at the Louis Vuitton store on the Champs-Élysées in 2005.
Instead of inviting the public to discover a new artwork inside the space, the object subverts the viewer’s gaze, blocking exterior light and preventing him or her from seeing anything. Visitor are invited to kneel down, to look inside, and to see… nothing!
L’installation invite les visiteurs à mettre leurs têtes dans le casier pour ne voir… rien. (le tissu occultant dont la sculpture est cousue bloque la lumière).
