Tea Bag

This piece is a play on words, a meditation on consumer culture, and a reversal of the meanings that we associate with a particular material. It was produced in reaction to rising popularity of the fiscally conservative Tea Party movement within the Republican Party in the United States. I cast a copy of a plastic bag in resin and loose tea leaves, rendering the bag no longer functional and the tea, undrinkable. From afar, the piece resembles a plastic bag, frozen and untouched by the environmental conditions around it. Upon closer inspection, the viewer discovers is is a solid object created from tea leaves and resin.
