Background

Kasia Ozga creates public artworks and sculptural installations in a variety of materials for both interior and exterior spaces. Her works depicts change in the natural environment, either directly, through the use of organic materials intentionally affected by weather conditions over time, or indirectly, via visual metaphors for the experience of time. Ozga is a former Kosciuszko Foundation Fellowship recipient, Harriet Hale Woolley Grant recipient from the Fondation des Etats-Unis and Young Professional Artist Travel Grant recipient from the Polish Ministry of Culture grantee. She has participated in environmental art festivals and sculptural symposiums in multiple countries, creating site-specific installations in everything from wicker to stone, from resin to bronze.

Place

Kasia Ozga was born in Warsaw, Poland shortly before the declaration of martial law. After stints in Berlin, Springfield, Glenview, Wilmette, Boston, and Krakow, she now lives and works between Paris and Chicago. Ozga divides her time between studio work and site-specific projects conceived for a variety of different physical locations. Her work has been exhibited in 5 states in the USA and in 9 countries.

Action.Reaction

Ozga is a sculptor working in a range of two and three dimensional media. She has designed everything from buttons to websites to installations out of everything from bread to pixels to 2×4’s. Since her work often depicts the human body, she makes frequent use of clay modeling, mold-making, and casting processes. Some of her pieces disintegrate 2 minutes after they’re completed whereas others are made to outlive the artist. The conceptual goals and environmental contexts of each piece influence the materials which Ozga works with.

Elsewhere

Kasia Ozga has worked as an art teacher, design instructor, art studio assistant, exhibit organizer, and artist representative. When not making art, she enjoys spending time in forests, exploring different cities with her taste buds, and imagining new ways of sharing physical space.
